The California Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)

The California Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is funded by the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The survey will be implemented statewide for the first time in spring 2009. Surveys are conducted in schools using a sample of 9th through 12th graders. The YRBS was developed to monitor priority health risk behaviors that contribute the leading causes of mortality, morbidity and social problems among adolescents. The survey is part of a surveillance effort conducted by the California Department of Public Health, the California Department of Education and the Public Health Institute in cooperation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The biennial sample size for this survey is approximately
1,500 surveys.
