Profile
Survey Research Group (SRG) is a section under the California Department of Public Health’s Cancer Surveillance and Research Branch (CSRB). SRG specializes in conducting scientific health-related surveys. SRG began as a small computer assisted telephone interviewing unit (CATI) in 1987 to conduct the then nascent California Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Today, SRG continues to conduct the BRFSS for California, completing five times as many interviews. Public health officials, advocates, and researchers use the health data for a variety of purposes:
- To track health risks
- Identify emerging problems
- Prevent disease
- Improve treatment
- Evaluate programs
SRG conducts several thousand high quality health-related interviews per month in multiple languages and strives to become a fully bilingual call center. Interviewers work simultaneously on an unlimited number of projects at one time. The software that facilitates the interviewing process allows questionnaire design and sampling strategy to be tailored to the needs of each research project. In addition to data collection, SRG boasts a highly educated research staff with advanced degrees in epidemiology, statistics, marketing research and social sciences. This extremely skilled research staff enables SRG to conduct sophisticated statistical analysis of survey data. SRG clients include state and federal governments, academic institutions, and private non-profit organizations.
SRG is proud to house one of the most technologically advanced call centers in the country. SRG's state-of-the-art equipment and customized software facilitates high efficiencies as well as the highest quality control standards. All interviewers receive dynamic training in telephone survey techniques in addition to specialized survey instrument training and certification from the National Institutes of Health. Data integrity and security are of paramount importance and strict confidentiality and data protections are constantly monitored and enforced.
Since 1987, the Survey Research Group has earned its reputation as a forerunner in the highly competitive data collection arena. These years of experience in the telephone instrument design, data collection, data analysis, multi-lingual capacity, information products, and our commitment to client service sets us apart from our competitors. The computer assisted telephone interview method of survey data collection is well-established, reliable, scientifically valid, and cost-effective.
